Our Story
JamaicanPatwah.com began in 2012 with a passion for Jamaican language and culture. What started as a small project has grown into one of the internet's largest collections of Jamaican Patois words, phrases, translations, and educational resources.
Over the years, thousands of learners have used our dictionary, translator, lessons, and learning materials to better understand Jamaican Patois.
As the language continues to gain global attention, our mission has expanded beyond preserving words. We are helping build the educational foundation that allows Jamaican Patois to be learned, taught, and understood consistently across books, classrooms, websites, software, and artificial intelligence.
The JP Standard
A practical writing system for clarity, consistency, and pronunciation support.
One of our most important initiatives is the development of the JP Standard Writing System.
Because Jamaican Patois has many regional pronunciations and spelling variations, learners are often confused by inconsistent writing.
The JP Standard provides a practical and consistent approach to spelling and pronunciation while respecting the natural diversity of the language.
This standard is used throughout our educational resources, including our dictionary, phrasebooks, workbooks, pronunciation lessons, and future Patwah Academy courses.
